Dear Uncle MortIn a unique offer to BIS members, and in aid of the BIS Appeal, Surrey Satellite Technology Limited are offering to launch a small chip carrying the names of BIS members onboard their UK-DMC-2 satellite.UK-DMC-2 is a 100 kg, Earth observation micro-satellite carrying a highly capable high-resolution multi-spectral imager. As part of the Disaster Monitoring Constellation, the satellite will be able to image continuously while broadcasting data in real-time to licensed ground stations. The satellite is due to be launched in the summer of 2009.For a cost of £90 (US$189) (inclusive of VAT), your name will appear on the chip. This should be no more than 30 characters long, including spaces and titles, and you must be a Society member. The funds received will go to the BIS Appeal. To meet the launch date you will need to get your details to the Society before 18th May 2009.All members who subscribe will receive a certificate confirming that their name made it into Space.
Since no-one will ever know for sure that it is there ~ I wouldn't pay them a penny.
