...is being revived.
Linky
Starts tonight BBC 1 9:30pm, I shall be watching but I have some doubts as to whether it will match the original.
What does the team think?

The Clunes boy is a pretty smart fella and may just do the job.
I had grave misgivings about him in 'Goodbye Mr Chips' but he was superb.
I shall be watching if the Good Lord sees fit.

I too will be watching but I have doubts about being able to accept a "new" Reggie ~ read last weekend in 't paper that David Nobbs (author) says it is better than ever and Clunes reckons the same. We shall see.

I heard a critique of this on the radio (they obviously had the benefit of a critics' preview); someone mentioned that Clunes always came across as really likeable whereas Rossiter was often on the verge of appearing almost demented
Thus Clunes doesn't hack it compared to the original.
These are new scripts, are they not? Although comparison with the original is inevitable I'm hoping to view it as fresh and enjoy it anew.

HIGNFY was good. Thought Frank Skinner was on form and that Tory bugger (and he is) was willing to go for the laughs.
Meanwhile also watched Reggie ~ not a patch on the old one. Seen afresh it would be funnier I expect but some of the "bite" seems to have gone from the jokes. Would perhaps have been better if it were set in a Bank or similar financial institution to give room for more topicallity. We know all about "men's grooming" these days and it is all a bit something and nothing. His "fantasy woman" is not up to much either. One or two belly laughs though. I particularly liked the one about periods.
Verdict from the kennel ~ can only get better ***

Had a few good laughs but I agree Snoops, male grooming is a bit lame compared with what's happened this past year. I wonder when it was written
The repeat of HIGNFY on Saturday had some extras that weren't in the final Friday edit; is this the routine?

HIGNFY does indeed repeat the following night with a few bits that are edited out of the Friday version put back in. I see that the Beeb are so desperate they also repeated Reggie the following night too. Whatever happened to Saturday Night in front of the TV?

No-one, but no-one can portray the nervous energy/dememtia of Leonard Rossiter. It didn't work for me, although in itself, not compared to the original, I thought it was OK. Let's see how it matures.

As TMR said, it was OK. I felt it tried too hard for a first episode, packing too much in. subtly is all I say.
Still I shall stay with it as there were some little flashes that were very good.

I forgot to record it on Friday...
However, it is sad that the best the BBC can do it remake a classic series like Perrin... is there no writing talent within the company that can come up with an original theme...?
IMHO most telly these days is about as entertaining as watching your own shite.
