Poet Goes
« on: April 27, 2009, 05:28:31 PM »
Andrew Motion has passed his last piece of shite as Poet Laureate.

Thank the Lord for that.

Hopefully Wendy Cope will get the job ~ she is good.

Wendy Cope says she doesn't want the job (there is a history of "refusals" over the last 400+ years)
Meanwhile according to the Gruaniad
Quote
William Hill and Ladbrokes say no further bets will be accepted after spate of reports that Carol Ann Duffy has been picked to succeed Andrew Motion

An appointment is expected next week.

Pam Ayres?

Why not? She is one of few who are not so far up their own arse as to feel the job is beneath them ~ even if her accent is a bit phoney.

Is she not dead yet then...? She was about 90 when she was on That's Life...

So the new Poet Laureate, recommended to HRH (who has no choice but to accept the recommendation) by the Government, turns out to be an Obese, Glaswegian, Lesbian with a speech impediment. How "Right On" is that? ~ Oh and IMHO her poetry is shite but is claimed to be among Britain's most widely read ..... which is probably because it forms part of the GCSE syllabus although some of her work has had to be removed for fear that it would spark teenage knife crime.

It is reported that Tony Blair vetoed her last time round as he felt she would not be acceptable to "Middle England" ~ well that was one he got right. Shame he couldn't work out the same sums for "Gorbals" Mick as Speaker and Gordon Brown as his successor as PM.
