If something is worth doing then it is worth trying to do it properly
I like to do things on me own merit without help, learn from my mistakes, and that way I can then justify feeling proud of meself when it all comes together.

When you do make mistakes how do you know?
To my mind if you don't know something or are not sure how do go about doing something it is surely better to admit your lack of knowledge/need for assistance than to make a balls up and still not know you've done so.
When you do make a rickets of something and everyone goes
and you flounce off in a huff you only make yourself look and feel a twat.
Using a spell checker when one is available is common sense. I edit and publish a Community Magazine, as you know. Those that read it expect a certain standard, those that contribute to it rely on the editor to correct their errors so that they do not become the subject of
I certainly do not have time to use a paper dictionary to check every word so I do use a spell checker on everything that goes in. I also keep a large dictionary and a "Fowler's Guide to Modern English Usage" on my desk along with an Oxford Dictionary of Quotations, a Chambers Biographical Dictionary plus a Who's Who in British History. All essential aids to ensuring accuracy when I am editing.
It makes sense to me and I learn much more by checking facts and noting my spelling errors than I would by waiting to see if anyone bothered to tell me where I had got it wrong.
