I wouldn't say it is really a problem but in the past spelling errors were automatically underlined in red as I typed my posts. Dunno why but this has stopped happening.
I could never get it to work on IE so that was just one more reason to always use Firefox but following (I think) recent Firefox updates the facilty has vanished.
Not a major issue as I can and do tend to click on the spell check button before hitting post but I wonder if anyone knows how I can recover the previous setting. I have been through the cellar to see if there is anything in account settings but can't find what I am looking for there.
The red underlining stilll works on the updated Thunderbird email facility and of course is there when I use any Windows Office Suite applications.

These are prolly not "Server Problems" but this seemed the best place to start a discussion on the subject as I cannot be the only one irked by this.

Also whilst on the subject why oh why can I have an English (British) spell check on Windows Office Suite but not on the VP board. Do we have an option or does it have to be English (US) spellings 'cos I am sick of being told that colour should be color etc.

Well... it still works for me in Firefox...

Check Firefox Tools Add-ons and make sure the British English Dictionary is not disabled... if it isn't, delete it and install again from here...

As for the pub spell checker, I remember Berek complained about it and I changed it (it defaults to US English). It must have changed back at some point since so I'll find out where the setting is again... it is not in the control panel - I remember that I had to change a file and upload it...

Now you see, I don't use spell checkers anywhere, cus I'm proud to say that I just try my best...for someone with no qualifications...and therefore on the face of it, to be not as bright  and clever as you lot appear to be. rubschin:

I like to do things on me own merit without help, learn from my mistakes, and that way I can then justify feeling proud of meself when it all comes together. cloud9:

Very commendable ~ just one question.
When you do make mistakes how do you know?

To my mind if you don't know something or are not sure how do go about doing something it is surely better to admit your lack of knowledge/need for assistance than to make a balls up and still not know you've done so.

When you do make a rickets of something and everyone goes  point: and you flounce off in a huff you only make yourself look and feel a twat.

Using a spell checker when one is available is common sense. I edit and publish a Community Magazine, as you know. Those that read it expect a certain standard, those that contribute to it rely on the editor to correct their errors so that they do not become the subject of  point: I certainly do not have time to use a paper dictionary to check every word so I do use a spell checker on everything that goes in. I also keep a large dictionary and a "Fowler's Guide to Modern English Usage" on my desk along with an Oxford Dictionary of Quotations, a Chambers Biographical Dictionary plus a Who's Who in British History. All essential aids to ensuring accuracy when I am editing.

It makes sense to me and I learn much more by checking facts and noting my spelling errors than I would by waiting to see if anyone bothered to tell me where I had got it wrong.
