Did you have one of those corrugated cardboard discs with two holes through which you passed a piece of string and then tied the string to form a loop. The trick was to wind (twist) the loops of string and then pull both ends to make the disc whizz round. If you got it right and could pull and release the strings at the right moments the corrugated card disc made a loud whistling noise.

I made the boys one each after the crackers hit the bin .... SWWLTBO banned me from anymore childhood memories.  redface:

Mind you I went up hugely in the boys' esteem.   razz:

Oh yes...  cloud9:

And did you ever drill a hole in the end of a 12" wooden ruler, tie string to it and whizz it around your head...?  cloud9:

Speaking of rulers the boys asked me the other day why it was that when I draw a line, using a ruler, I always turn the ruler over so that the bevelled edge is resting on the paper.

"Habit" I replied "All due to having to use a pen and ink at school, if you don't turn the ruler over then the ink will smudge"

Being used to pencils and ball point pens they were baffled.

My how times have changed. Made me feel even older than I am. confused:
