Gentleman's Relish
« on: May 16, 2009, 05:19:35 PM »
For some reason that I cannot explain I have been thinking about Gentleman's Relish of late. I have searched local shops, asked various supermarket assistants if they stock this delicious addition to a well stocked larder and met with a total blank. No-one in this area will admit to ever hearing of it so I have resorted to the internet and deep joy I have located a supplier.

My order has been sent. cloud9:

Anyone else have a fancy for delights of old that are no longer available (apart from sex with one's wife of course)

I used to have a handle on life but it broke.

Would it sound any better if I mentioned it is a spicy anchovy paste?   whistle:

It's lovely on thin white toast or in scrambled eggs.

But surely the reason it is very difficult to source these days is that no one likes it ( with notable exceptions obviously  whistle: )

Despite my love of it I have to admit that £2.35 for 42.5 grms of what is basically fish paste is a bit pricey.

I suspect the reason for its lack of appearance on local shelves is that there are few gentlemen here to want to buy it.

BTW It tastes a bit like Worcester Sauce only a bit more solid.

Another one that is getting harder to come by is Hammonds Chop Sauce. Far better than HP sauce.
