Election Day
« on: June 04, 2009, 08:36:06 AM »
I voted about an hour ago. So many candidates and most of them nutters  noooo: The ballot paper was about two feet long.

No results till Sunday unfortunately

I wonder how the VP would vote  rubschin:

I tried to locate the results of the last Euro election so that I could see where I might vote tactically, but I couldn't find them online. ANyone else had any luck with that?

'Fraid not ~ but then I haven't looked. Is there not a lot of "Second Choice" and other such jiggery pokery with the euro elections. Bit like Yacht racing where it takes a committee hours to decide who actually won despite everyone having seen the yacht that crossed the finishing line first ~ and that boat never turns out to be the winner for some reason to do with handicaps, taking other people's wind and numerous variables on a theme that only retired admirals can understand.

Yes, I was expecting it to be dead complicated and having to put down lots of numerical preferences, but all I had to do was to put one X.

Well obviously I want to put the boot into Gordon and Co so it would normally be the Tories but I am not altogether happy with their stance on Europe.
If CMD would commit to a referendum on a straight forward IN or OUT question then they would have my vote.
As it is UKIP might shade it for me because frankly it ain't going to make a whole lot of difference anyway.

I'll see which parties are standing in this area. There are bound to be some Welsh nutters.

UKIP or the Conservatives haven't quite made up my mind yet. Although we will end up Lib Dem as always.

I like this bit ~ wonder how I missed that happening. rubschin:

Quote
In the UK the European elections are typically guaranteed a low turnout. In 1999, turnout here was the lowest in Europe at 24%. In an attempt to combat this, the Labour Government is holding experiments in postal ballots in four of Britain's 12 European constituencies. The pace and direction of European integration is a topic of much debate here and UK Prime Minister Tony Blair has recently decided to hold a referendum on the proposed EU constitution. Like many countries the UK is losing seats in the European Parliament to provide space for the new member nations. This means the UK will have 78 instead of 87 seats. The UK uses a list system of proportional representation, except for Northern Ireland, which uses the single transferable vote system.

There is quite a strong nationalist tendency that far north Nick.

They argue that as there is a Welsh Language Act they want a Scottish Language Act.
