Bizarre happenings of the day - we had a party of 12 men from China being sent to us from the Electoral Commission to 'observe' the process. Without prior notification I hasten to add

- when they were looking at the form and saw more than 1 choice they were baffled.
They stood in a huddle of black suits and white shirts for an hour or so and spent most of the time nodding without actually saying anything whilst the translator attempted to ask questions. Then they tried to present me with a gift for my co-operation - trying to explain to the translator that I couldn't accept without offending them was impossible. I don't think I will be welcome in China any time soon
