Lettuce gives man chronic back ache
« on: June 14, 2009, 09:06:11 PM »
A few weeks back I laid a patio - no problem
I built a small wall in the garden - no problem
I built a dry stone wall in the garden - no problem
I put in five fence posts - no problem

Today, I go to the shops, but one bag of lettuce leaves, one cucumber, some tomatoes, and mange tout. As I got back into the car, I felt something go in my back. Four miles later at home I could hardly move.  sad32: I've been on pain killers all day, hurts like ****

Sorry to hear you are suffering  JOM  happy100

Hope you are not having to go to work today and are resting. Be sensible !!!!!!!!

then make sure you have a laptop positioned at a suitable angle of course  8), a regular supply of buckets of tea and  a little bell to call Mrs JOM  whenever you need anything else. noooo:

Moral of the story though - you need 5 fruit or vegetables a day - or they turn you into one  eeek:

I wasn't sensible, I went in. By 0830hr's I knew it was a mistake, so I've just got back from the doctors and she's said I won't be doing any driving or sitting at a desk/computer for a few days (a laptop at home for personal use is of course different). If it's no better by next monday I've to go and get a sick note. It's many a moon since I've filled one of those in. First cup of tea is already on hand along with paracetomol interspersed with Ibuprofen. I'll need a big bell for Mrs JOM, she's at work 15 miles away

Doctor is also a bit  eyes:, how come when I've got a bad back she gets on the floor flat on her back lifting her legs in the air, rolling side to side showing me all these exercises to do. She never did that when I went to see her about my big toe  confused:

Well we will look after you - promise we won't let Nick do the cooking today  noooo:

We might also struggle with finding you a 'hot' exercise buddy but that's probably best given your condition  whistle:

Chiropractor. And knock the ibuprofen on the head. Co-codamol is what you need and diclofenic gel for the affected area. All available from local chemists. Should also walk lots, staying still stiffens it up and use ice packs to bring the swelling down.

Ta Wenchy. I went back into work yesterday having had last week off. Today was the first day without tablets, so I'm hopefully sorted. I was talking to a couple of colleagues at work about it today and they were on about some aloe vera drink that sorted both of them out. I've read about the wonders of aloe vera before, but don't recall it being used for back ache

Interesting article about Chiropractors in The New Scientist (30 May 2009 Edition)...

Basically it offers a placebo effect and it 'carries the risk of stroke or death'....  rubschin:

Have you done something to upset Wenchy JOM/  scared2:

Love my chiropractor! And my homeopath!

Aloe Vera is an all round healing tool. I'm allergic to it.

Also take arnica. Very helpful in the healing of bruises/strains etc. Should be available in tablet form in boots. Aloe vera juice can be purchased in most crunchy health shops.

Her! And she doesn't. She rubs and prods and then I get a nice head massage.  cloud9:

Head Massage ~ sort of like a chimps grooming session then.
I used to have a handle on life but it broke.
