For what it is worth the first two VC10's the RAF purchased were delivered to RAF Lyneham in 1965 ~ I was on duty that weekend and had to sign for them.


As for the Comet ~ a wonderful aircraft. I worked on them from 1965 to 1968.
Flew in them many times


Also worked on Bristol Britannias


And was still there when the RAF took delivery of the first of their Hercules C30s
