Exactly why I don't particularly like flying on the likes of the Airbus - instead of a real connection between the joystick (always wondered about that term  eyes:) and the controls surfaces, you have a microsoft games joystick and a pooter . . . . .

My experience of many years with pooters is that they generally go tits up at the most inconvenient times - like landing?

I think you'll find that most (if not all) modern airliners are now 'fly by wire'.....

...and of course many other functions of a modern aircraft are controlled entirely or partly and monitored by 'puters....

I distinctly remember when the Airbus was launched a computer boffin stating that with millions of lines of computer code they could never test it all and the planes would be falling out of the air every day.... ::)

Well the good news Marley is they don't use Windows, the other good news is being electronic links they're able to route the front to wing connections to reduce the risk of damage.  A good move as sadly it's not unknown for aircraft to crash when the mechanical control links have been impaired by otherwise survivable mechanical damage.

The only fly by wire passenger aircraft accidents I know of were caused by errors in other areas.
