to restore water pressure after they have repaired a burst water main ???

Thames Water website says

Updated: 2:40pm

Water supply has been restored for customers .....Some customers may still be experiencing reduced pressure but this should return to normal shortly.

Our engineers have been carrying out emergency repairs throughout the day to fully restore supply as quickly as possible.

We are sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Turn on one cold tap in the kitchen ~ only part way and leave it. You may find that there is a build up of air that needs to come through before you get water. When you do get water it is likely to be muddy at first.
DO NOT TURN THE TAP FULL ON UNLESS YOU WANT TO HAVE TO WASH THE KITCHEN FLOOR.

I'd say an airlock somewhere. Sounds like you have drained both your hot tank and the header tank (in the roof). Suggest you call the water board before they all p*ss off for the night.

You could try the nuclear option of turning on all taps fully and stand by with a mop.

Then just leave the kitchen cold tap turned on slightly and you will know when they have done the job.

Do you have a hot water tank upstairs or are you purely connected to the mains and running a combi boiler?

Direct from water mains , combi boiler and and a water meter ...

The Health club may be an option Pastis - the last update says they will still be working on it this evening and 'hope' to restore tonight  cry:
