One is a 19yr old Latina from the US with whom I have no mutual connection at all, honest  angel1

The other is allegedly a 22yr old male friend of my glamourous 2nd cousin in Tasmania... Why TF does he want to be friends with me? Unless he thinks he stands a better chance by being buddies with her uncle...  whacky115

Now am I being naive here but what  kind of research can they do - surely your security settings mean that if you are not a friend or friend of friend you are not able to view any personal details  whacky115

I've said it before, lotsa people leave their profiles open.

Even when they are fairly closed, you may still leave things such as groups etc that could give a clue as to your personality.

Try googling your name, as an experiment that is.
It can be quite frightening.

Let's be honest shall we? Facebook is absolute shite, a haven for the sad and lonely perhaps but pure shite. The only use it has that I can see is that we use it to be able to keep in touch when the VP has one of its regular crashes. If only we were able to trust each other with our real email addresses we wouldn't need it at all.

**** me! My details don't appear to be there, but the biggest hit was somebody with the same name on Facebook, his picture was of HIM (not me) with what appears to be a inflatable male sex-doll  eeek:

Depends what you use it for really. I enjoy FB but to a limited extent.  It is not the same as just emailing someone because I wouldn't bother anyone with half of the tosh I put on there  ;D

But some of the stuff on there I really enjoy . For example JOM has recently added loads of pictures of all sorts of things as does Miss C.  Not personal ones but places , interests etc They wouldn't email me those normally but by sharing these I get the benefit.

There are also games on there I enjoy - see BB thread
