Covering books
« on: September 09, 2009, 07:11:40 AM »
Last night The Brat presented me with a pile of 12 exercise books that all needed 'covering' as dictated by the school.

She had been out and bought rolls of sticky backed plastic and then asked me to do it cos she wasn't very good.  Banghead

There then preceded a couple of hours of arguments and tears ( mine of course  lol: ) because there was an air bubble or a crease in one , it wasn't aligned straightly on another.......etc etc etc

 Explode:

Why the feck do they still insist on these books being covered......if the quality is that bad that you need to cover in wallpaper or some such to make sure it doesn't disintegrate then buy better quality books.

And what are they going to do if a kid refuses to cover their books - put them in detention or send the parent/s a threatening letter for not adhering to the parent / school partnership charter

I will never, ever, ever attempt to cover a book again  evil:

Books should be covered in brown paper, 'chip' paper or even wall paper. There is no intention, on the part of the school, that these covers need to be stuck to the book. Quite the opposite in fact. The school is well aware that hormonal teenagers will cover their exercise books with doodles, scribbles and I LOVE XXXY so they sensibly ask that the children cover the books and that way they can, from time to time when the "art work" becomes too much or when the love of her life changes to another pop group and she starts scrawling out the one now out of favour, tell her to replace the cover. Sticky backed plastic completely negates the purpose of the instruction. The alternative is to charge the parents for all new books issued and you wouldn't like that either.
FFS I had to cover my books when I went to school in the 1950s so this is nothing new.

One teacher of my acquaintance proposed, only half in jest, that the children should be similarly wrapped when they reached teenhood to stop them spending all day drawing on their hands and arms with "gel pens" ~ She hasn't? ................. She will.

PS Would you like me to show you how to do it properly?  whistle:

Yes all guidance would have been appreciated on how to do it properly  lol:

But as I said I am never doing it again  angry041:

The school has said they do not want the books covered in anything else but clear plastic - so no books wrapped in posters of their latest jeans half way down his arse wearing , bling covered moron. Apparently that makes exercise books the subject of  'coveting or bullying ' by others  Banghead

I am not paying 80p a cover for a school exercise book when they have several exercise books per lesson , homework books, text books and the like.

Throw me off the parent / school charter prenup if you want

Well ~ if you want your child to be singled out as the only one etc etc etc.

I've been down this road. Trust me it's easier to give in. At least you didn't have three of them at it.

Last evening Madam presented me with her "First Book List" as this was given to her by the History Department and the English Lit Department yesterday with the instruction: "You will need these as of next week". She tells me that she will be given the Geology and Welsh Bac lists next week.
So I looked at the list and armed with my Amazon Account hit the net.
£50 for set books  shocked003 and that is only half the list for the AS levels. Another list to come and then next year we move on to A levels.

Two of the books (Poetry for Eng Lit) she has to have two copies of each.
One to annotate and one to keep as a clean copy for the actual examinations  cussing:

It can only get worse.
