BSOD
« on: September 09, 2009, 10:27:56 AM »
 Banghead Banghead Banghead Banghead

I accidentally cut the power to the ground floor electric sockets last night (don't ask) , the computer restarted and up came the "Blue Screen of Death" Does not load up Windows in any mode. Ran diagnostics from recovery disk which found corrupt blocks.

Looks like a reformat and reinstall tonight.

Laptop or desktop?

The only relevance being that a laptop is lighter to throw through the window  lol:

Not so, young hound. If it's a laptop, SOMETIMES, taking the battery out, putting it in a plastic bag and lobbing it in the freezer for an hour, then re-installing it can somehow revive it. If a desktop, remove the power lead and hold the on/off button for at least 30 seconds. Then put the lead back in and try also SOMETIMES works.

So there.

He's right though.

Reinstalling XP from the recovery disk isn't the problem, it's all the updates and the other programs loaded since the original installation that takes the time and that's not even counting the data and my music files from backup.

Desktop - bought March 05. Maybe I should just get a new one.  rubschin:

He's wrong! I gave it one last, the recovery disk gave access to c prompt so I ran 'chkdsk /r', took a while but it repaired/recovered the corrupt blocks.
