Bad back
« on: October 19, 2009, 08:55:38 AM »
I am in pain.
Last Thursday, gave my back a little tweak, but everything seemed fine on Friday.
Saturday, cleared a load of leaves and stuff from next doors garden, no problem.
Sunday - pain - bad back pain. (Popped a disc many years ago).
Slept ok, hot water bottle stuffed against lower back.
This morning, could just about get out of bed and stand up.

Not a happy bunny.

It's the first time in years that it's been this bad. Usually it's ok after a few hours or a nights sleep, but not this time so I know it's bad.
Can only take paracetemol, which is no help really.
The advice used to be to rest up stay in bed etc, but these days you are told to stay mobile which is all well and good, but you don't feel great when you walk around looking like Max Wall with a bad case of piles.

It would take an awful lot of them to numb the pain.

Whilst I say it is back pain, it is caused by a disc in my lower spine and the pain extends down into my legs though not both legs at once thank god.

I suspect you've trapped your sciatic nerve; I had the same many years ago and could barely walk. I believe the answer is mild, gentle exercise unless you literally can't move.

A friend of mine had it very badly and unlike many years ago when they were not keen to operate, he had an op. Ironically it was at the place you came for an interview last week ~ not the dental wing, obviously  ;)
He was better very soon.
