Gibralter
« on: November 04, 2009, 09:51:39 AM »
This time last week. me and the Growlers family visited Gib.
The monkeys on the Rock had to be visited, but being a tight arse I told them we'd have to walk up. ?40 to drive up there, no bloody way. evil:
?2 (only) lighter, up we went, walking, and apart fromn the constant complaining about it being too far, and too steep the Growler jnrs. actually finally agreed that it was worth the effort.
I thouroughly enjoyed the hike.

On a less positive note, the place absolutely stinks of scooter fumes, and the standard of driving on them is suicidal.

Baccy was unbelievably cheap. ?17 for 10 pouches x 50g! eeek:
That would have cost well over ?100 back here.

The down side was that I came within a whisker of having it confiscated on the way out because apparently you aren't allowed to take duty free off the Rock after 9 pm. evil:
Those Spanish customs officers really don't like us Brits, and if it hadn't been for my sweet talkin' charm and charisma I'd have lost the lot.

Strange place anyway, but glad I went now. Can't begin to understand why we seem to be venemently defending our rights to hang on to it though? confused2:

It's only ?2.50 to drive round and up the Great Orme, Llanduddno. But the baccy and fuel are much dearer.
Have a free ride compliments of the Hound.

Morrisons?
I did know they had M&S and Tesco.

I gather that "ordinary" Spaniards have some measure of fondness for Gib's continued existance as they drive over to take advantage of the prices but that would never suit their politicians.

Tried to get posted there with the RAF but ended up in bloody Aden instead so only refuelled at Gib en route ~ same with Cyprus. Never got off the base.  ::)

Well since Morrisons bought out Safeway then that explains the whole mystery. Oh you are a clever and well travelled bunch  cloud9:

As for British shops in foreign climes I have never understood why anyone would go to Calais from the UK on a day trip and shop in Sainsbury but they do, in their thousands. noooo:

Bloody great heavin' rip off, mind, it IS Britain don't forget. ::)

Nice walk anyway as I stated. Just a bit heavy on the ears. whistle:

Ahhhh yes the Wench family has spent many awful hours on the Rock. Being the emporium for cheap tobacco and main supplier of British products for the majority of the Costa Del Sol.

I got attacked by an ape up there too once!  eeek:
