Grand or great?
« on: November 20, 2009, 11:24:55 AM »
My dad is off visit my niece and her daughter over the weekend.

Therefore my sister is the grandmother and my dad is the great grandfather.

Am I a grand uncle or a great uncle?

I always referred my grandmother's brothers and sisters as great uncles and great aunts.

I will look back in after lunch.

I have been told that both are ok but it became fashionable to use great rather than grand.

Apparently great great grand uncle does not come across very well when people are doing their family history.

I haven't even seen the little bugger yet, born in February.

Just found out that niece is coming down tomorrow for the weekend so may get a chance to see the little cherub.

How did you know about my Irish swagger?
