Scary Roads
« on: November 28, 2009, 08:29:30 AM »
Spaghetti Junction in Birmingham is Britain's most intimidating road system, a survey has revealed.

As many as 8% of motorists avoid "scary" junctions altogether and drive an average of 238 miles extra a year on detours, a survey by breakdown company Britannia Rescue found.

The poll also showed that 2% of motorists are so nervous they avoid making right turns at all costs, while 14% give urban areas a miss.

The second most hair-raising intersection area, according to the survey of 3,225 drivers, was the mate and its junctions through central Glasgow, with Marble Arch in central London third.

Road systems in London, Birmingham, Manchester, Glasgow and Leeds were labelled by motorists as particularly difficult to navigate.

The "scariest" junctions were: Gravelly Hill (Spaghetti Junction), Birmingham; mate junctions through central Glasgow; Marble Arch, London; Magic Roundabout, Swindon, Wiltshire; Hanger Lane Gyratory, west London; M5/M6 intersection, Birmingham; Piccadilly Circus, London; Five Ways junction, Birmingham; Magic Roundabout, Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire; Kingston Bridge, Glasgow

So are there roads or junctions that you would actively avoid because of the complexity  / madness of them all.

Must admit to absolutely detesting Hyde Park Corner and will do anything to avoid if possible - frightens the feckin life out of me - but then I could just not be aggressive enough  rubschin:

You driven 'round the Paris periferique (sp) or the Arc de Treeumph lately?
Now they are a timid drivers nightmare.
Even driving a 52 seater charabang doesn't intimidate the Frogs, and indicators are a complete and utter waste of time. ::)

No  I did not crash it  evil:

Was pointless and too expensive to keep one. Have to pay for commuting into work anyway - no choice with that -  and so simply can't justify it or afford it
