Earlier this morning, I received a call on my mobile, quite a rarity in itself.

It was a number I ddn't recognise, so I answered in the normal DS manner used to discourage nuisance calls etc;

Ring, Ring,

DS: "Hello, Special Branch duty officer, how can I help you"

Caller: "Hello Caroline, it's Mum, just called to see how you are feeling"

DS: "Fine thanks, the operation was a complete success and I am looking forward to my first shave"

Pause..

Caller: "Who are you?"

DS: "The person you phoned. Perhaps you dialled the wrong number?"

Caller: "I never dial the wrong number, why do you have Caroline's mobile"

DS: "This is Caroline, although I now wish to be called Charles"

Caller: "Ooh you horrid man"

DS: "Goodbye Dad"

Click.
I mostly despair

rubschin: rubschin:  Umm I see munny in the all new DS answering service.  VPer's will of course get special rates.  Higher than other customers but special nonetheless.

Been to dentist ~ see other threads.

She peered at the crumbling tooth ..... "Nothing I can do with that, there is only the root and a bit of jagged enamel left. It is probably caused by the beta blockers. You have had this before"

Me: "Arghhh" to indicate "Yes" through a mouthful of fingers.

Dentist "Well the root will probably fall out in the next few weeks, if it gets painful or infected then come back, otherwise I'll see you at the end of July and we'll discuss sending you to the Dental Hospital in Liverpool to have that and two others taken out. They may decide to remove all your remaining teeth and fit you with dentures"

Me: "Yarghhh" to indicate "No" through a mouthful of fingers and metal probes.

Dentist "Any problems give us a call......... Bye, see you in a couple of months"

Out to reception to be told that as I am over 60 and in Wales there will be no charge for the "inspection"
