Why's the summer solstice called 'mid summers day' when in fact it's the first official day of summer?
My reckoning is it should be mid August some time. rubschin:

Who exactly calls it Mid-summer's day? I certainly don't and I don't know anyone, other than you, who does. In my family it was always called "The First Day of Summer".

Where exactly in my original post did I actually say that I call it mid summers day? Shrugs:

Precisely. I didn't.

Others do however apparently. June 24th seems to be the day though, not the 21st.

There is some suspicion that in the distant past ancestors were involved in strange goings on at Stonehenge.

I seem to be away with the fairies today can anyone remember which thread Nick posted the link to 134 people or whatever it was?  My one key has just dropped off.  Arldite is called for. cloud9:

Daughter number three is arriving today.  She has just split up with her long term boyfriend.  A pub session and much ice cream seems in order. noooo:

Little does she know it but she is going to have to deal with a very grumpy me.  I do not do retail therapy but have to get a frock and 'stuff' to wear for a ball I am attending on Friday evening she is going to have to help.  evil:  This ball is a students ball and will all end in much vomiting and tears, my plan is to escape early.
