Took The Man to hospital on Friday to have his op ( section cut off lung to remove potential nasties)
We were told to arrive before 7am. Arrive as instructed - buzz away on ward bell for admittance. Queue builds up with 4 other people who are also having surgery.
Buzz away no entry. 10 minutes later porters turn up and go in , they dont' say anything to us but we follow in like doomed sheeples.
Nurse that had been standing by the main desk all along came out and told everyone to go and wait in the day room.
So we sit in there and then nursey comes in and says there is a bit of an issue as they have no beds. So the 5 patients look at each other thinking this is gonna be cancelled and start asking lots of questions
Next thing another nurse comes in and says right I am going to start taking all your pre op tests ...so each of the 5 had their blood taken , blood pressure were told to toddle off to toilet and bring back the golden stuff and then got to toilet to get changed into gown, compression socks etc.
So the gowned up 5 are all still sitting there in the waiting room 2 and a half hours later. Then the surgeon comes in and speaks to each individual in turn , going through medical history , procedure that they were going to have etc etc etc. To read an email from the NHS you have to get through all the encryption and nasa security levelness for data protection but they can talk about every intimate detail in front of a room of strangers.
The surgeons and staff then have a stand up row in the corridor directly outside the ward 'day room' about the lack of beds.
The nurse then comes in and does another blood pressure check for the 5. The bloke next to us 'Ron' obviously has an elevated reading and the nurse asks if he is anxious
So they finally get the green light that their surgeries would be going ahead and I leave as The Man is about to go down for surgery 3 hours later.
I go and visit yesterday ( the day after surgery) and he was in a ward with the other 3 men ( 1 poor lad was only 19) . The only woman of the 5 was in a separate area. Anyways I knew exactly what they all had done and so it turned into a bit of a communal visit.
But then the nurse came in and asked The Man if he wanted to go home
. The other 3 looked on enviously .
They had taken the drain out , given him some x-rays, happy that he was managing the pain and said he could do this at home
The other 3 fellas were going nowhere - Ron was trying to convince us to stay for a bit longer as he had ordered a KFC family bucket to be delivered
