Picked up Nicole and they are doing the MOT next month. They reported that the brake pads are very worn and she may fail the MOT for that reason

Well you'd think so

But then why would you arrange for a car to have a service on a different day than the MOT?   When I was doing 27,000 miles a year I had to have up to two services between MOTs but I doubt Nick's doing anything like that now.

I fucked up the dates. MOT due July 21 and not June 21 as I thought, but they could have called and asked if I wanted new pads while they had her in bits 

Now they have to take all the wheels off again before the MOT

Is this a good time to say you can do an MOT a month early and still have the same expiry date?

I was 5 weeks early

You can get an MOT up to a month (minus a day) before it runs out and keep the same renewal date.

But they could still have called about the pads
