I am in the pub (quelle surpris) with Mrs TMRBB, supping Young's ordinary and watching the mighty Millwall playing against the pig farmers of SwineTown.

My language is poor and I already have been given a yellow card by the guv'nor.

Yes ~ Moving bank accounts is supposed, by "Labour Government Edict" to have been simplified ..... I had a feeling when they told us the good news that their interference would only serve to make matter worse.

In fairness the delay was mostly down to new software or changes that the young lady was not acquainted with but, we shall see how comfortably it goes. They (Santander) are offering 6% interest for the first year  eeek: , which, apart from the fact that it's free banking, is rather attractive.

Santander eh? We have a savings account left over from the Abbey National with them ~ got all of ?130 in it ....... They keep writing to me making wild offers if I bank ?ks with them for fixed periods etc. They won't stop although I have asked them to. They say they are entitled to as I am an existing or past customer.
Anywhoo I like the people I am with ~ Norwich and Peterborough Building Soc who offer all banking services (Current and saving accts etc at sensible interest rates ~Yes on current acct too + share dealing at very low rate). I have been with them donkey's years and they leave me alone. A monthly statement and an annual invite to a buffet lunch and AGM (They are of course one of the last of the larger "Mutuals") is all I ever get from them, no insurance selling (it's on offer if I want it), no pressure to switch the mortgage (which is not with them) just good, old fashioned, courteous banking.

I was going to go 'business banking' with Nationwide since I have a small mortgage and a couple of other saver accounts with them but they no longer offer the service - that's what my IFA has coincidentally. He recommended the Alliance & Leicester which I dutifully enquired about but quickly realised they were / are in the process of being taken over by Santander, hence the switch.

During this morning's ... er ...meeting it became apparent that they already had most of my details on record  eeek:. Why? I asked, then realised that because, years ago I had a mortgage and saver accounts with the Abbey they'd hoovered them up from there!  As I said, time will tell; but free banking, 6% interest, and free o/d facility for the first year is certainly an incentive to switch for me.

Sounds like a good deal for you. Not sure it would be worth it for me.
Yes they do now own Alliance and Leicester and several other unlikely high street names.

Funnily enough I'm thinking of getting the bike out of the shed. It'll need the cobwebs and dust blowing off though
