There is but it goes like this

Garageman "I'm afraid it failed, just one or two minor jobs .... would you like us to do them and retest it? The retest is free if we do it within x days"

Me "Yes Please ..... errr.... what will the work cost?"

Garageman ... Sucks teeth "Oh ... ?200 should cover it"

Like I said the cost of an MOT in these parts seems to be about ?200.

Used to be ?100 when we moved here but I suppose that's inflation.

'Spect it is much dearer in London and I hate to think what it would cost in Manchester/Liverpool .... about 6 months if you get caught but few seem to.

Thanks Uncle

Growler ~ No I am not moving anything.

It works like this
Mr Average Motorist who knows the square root of FA about car repairs takes his car in for an MOT.
The MOT workshop would like to make some money so they fail it.
Not hard for them to do as just about every car on the road would fail if the examiner put his mind to it.
So they offer a retest free .... if you let them do the repairs.
You say yes and the cost is always about £200 as that is about what they think Mr Average Motorist will pay without questioning them.

Thus cynics like me say that the cost of an MOT in these parts is about £200.

I know the cost of the fvcking test. I am talking about what it will cost Mr Average Motorist to get a valid pass certificate.

Gorrit now?

Utter bollox. You should get a retest free regardless as to where you had the car repaired IF required.

Generally speaking MOT stations do not fail cars just so they can fleece you (see paragraph 1)

Anyone is a bit harsh, but yes, there some unscupulous merchants out there, no doubt at all.
It's just fishing and weeding them out that's the hardest bit.

Always go on personal recommendation from someone you actually know for anything car related. Flash adverts with unbelievable promises are usually rubbish.
If it's too good to be true, it usually is. ::)
