At family funeral after family funeral my uncle George stood at the end of the line of mourners shaking hands with all who had come to pay their respects. At least 12 times, over the years, he greeted me (the only one to have moved away from Southampton) with the words "Nice of you to come, I'll not see you next time as it'll be me in the box".
When at last it was his turn to be "in the box" his son (obviously my cousin) who had by now become so much like his lately departed father they might have been twins was stood in George's place and as I came out of the crematorium and saw him there I nearly had a heart attack ~ and what did he say to me? "Nice of you to come, George would have liked to know that you would be here ..... I expect it'll be me next and then it'll be your turn"
