I have been tasked with booking a venue for the team Christmas dinner today  eeek:

This normally involves checking out several venues ( visiting and eating / drinking there  noooo: ), getting menu's sending this round to 40 people , voting on preferences and then collecting deposits etc .... noooo:. Takes weeks / months to organise.

Feck that this year. I have contacted one of MY fave places ....checked availability for a couple of dates. They have confirmed that is fine , booked it . Sorted.

I have now to send an email out to team saying when and where it is and if you don't like it tough .

What can possibly go wrong ???

All went completely tits up for me doing just that several years ago, when I was the social sec. of the motor club that I then belonged to.

Booked everything, told everyone, majority seemed happy enough and trusted me, as they had done for 15 years prior, then a 'breakaway group' took it upon thenmselves to go behind my back and re-book the annual do at another Hotel elsewhere.

I've not been back to the club since.

There are whole industries built out of this stuff  evil:

You have to work on the basis that  you are not going to please everyone. If they are that unhappy they can take the responsibility of organising it ...but in this place that is highly unlikely  noooo:

Best attitude Miss D ..... Take it or leave it.

Memo should include "Here is the menu, please let me have your choices with your deposit. If deposit not received by xx/xx/xxxx then a place will NOT be reserved for you.
Note: Deposits are not refundable""

I used to organise a big national conference each year, and that included choosing the menus. I chose BEEF  cloud9:

The BSE outbreak went nuclear 2 days before the conference  noooo:

Everyone thought I was trying to poison them and everyone went veggy  noooo:

We had a group of girls from a local office book for Christmas Lunch.
Standard Pub Christmas Lunch Menu
STARTERS
Soup
Pate
Melon
MAIN COURSE
Roast Norfolk Turkey
Haunch of Local Venison
Roast Beef
Vegetarian Option
DESSERTS
Traditional Christmas Pudding with Brandy Butter and Cream
Mince Pies with Custard or Cream
Treacle Tart with Custard or Cream

When they arrived I gave them menu cards and left them to make a choice.

Then one asked "What is Haunch of Venison?"
and I replied "Carved slices of Bambi's spotty bits"

They cried  sad32:

Oh the times I have been "done" like that!

Phone rings and a voice says "Hi Snoopy, any chance you could pop in when you are passing and give us a quote for XYZ?"

"Be pleased to" says I and trot round to check out their problem, return to base and write up a quote and bike it to them.

Next thing I know is that all the technical details from my quote appear as the specification in an invitation to tender for the work.

On a couple of occasions I haven't even been included in the subsequent tender list. That has to be the most aggravating  censored: censored: censored: ever!

Oh yes, I have a hand in three tenders at  the moment (one of them MAHOOSIVE) and they all require very very detailed proposals. Tendering effectively offers free consultancy to the issuing authority  cussing: cussing: cussing: cussing:
