Saturday's new big 'ill challenge for me. cloud9:

I'm all excited like.

You should enjoy that. Our village "Field Club" did an organised excursion there earlier in the summer. Wife and kids went but although much of the path is well maintained the walk leader decreed that those of us with Electric Scooters and Wheelchairs would not be able to manage it. I gather it is well sign posted. The report that the club submitted for the Magazine said that everyone who went agreed it had been a pleasant and informative trip. Much talk of some rare bits of flora and so forth which pleased them. The circuit of the lake is a well known walk with some interesting geology which, of course, is why the THW went along.

Purely out of interest the name translates as Lake of Dogs.

I could let you have details of other, similar, excursions that the Field Club do if you would like. I know you prefer not to walk in company and the Field Club members are mostly "getting on a bit" (Their oldest member is 97 but she only attends the indoor events these days.) but they would welcome you as a guest should you wish to join one of their "guided" walks at any time. In the winter months they have a monthly lecture rather than risk walking the hills but throughout the spring, summer and early autumn they are out there exploring. Each walk is led by an "expert" in whatever the attraction of the particular walk is. So a botanist will be on hand to point out salient details of the flora, a geologist to tell the walkers about the rock formations and so forth. Their walks are often led by the County Archaeologist who tells the history of the area they are walking in very well.
Let me know if you are interested ~ I know you won't want to join the club but the information of where they go and why might be of interest.

BTW ~ It is the Field Club's Centenary Year coming up and they have some "spectaculars" planned.

Yes, thank you Snoopy. Routes are always welcome, as there is one hell of a lot of walking out there to be done in a limited amount of time.

It's true, I generally prefer and go walking on my own. Not particulary because I'm unsociable, no, mainly due to the embarrasment of being a bit on the slow side.
I have this absolutely ridiculous bloody competitive 'voice' going on in my head, that TELLS me I have to keep up with everyone else.
No, I don't understand either. Shrugs:
I have to check who's behind me before setting off too, to make sure no one is within overtaking distance. I HAVE to beat sheeples to my destination. Infuriatingly frustrating and knackering sometimes. Banghead
I sometimes get really upset if I'm overtaken.

I know, iknow, I'm bloody nuts. ::)

I really couldn't hack being with a large organised group, correct. I cannot stand regimentation, like the Ramblers Assoc. for instance. evil:
Always led by some big headed cock that's on a power freak trip.

No, company has to be well chosen and appreciative of the same vlaues that I place on such excursions.

I did actually advertise on faceache this week for any of my 'friends' who wanted to join me, would be more than welcome.

Looks like I'll be going to the pub for 'rewards' on my own after, after all now. whistle:

There is a twat in Nick Towers village who does guided walks. He carries a GPS thingy round his neck, the great boring twonk, even if he is just gong, um, round the village. They all wear boots and bobble hats and have backpacks and sticks anbd such. Wankers.

Generally speaking. you are correct.

It upsets me that my very own father used to be a keen member of the R.A., walking around with similar to those that you accurately describe.
Always some tosser at the front in his kahaki shorts, moustache and or beard, waving his stick around at the 'obedient troops' lap dogs

Anyway. THIS is why I need a dog. No bugger ever seems to want to be with me, so p'raps a wulfy may appreciate my many slightly hidden finer points.  cloud9:

I'll let you have a copy of their planned walks for next year then ~ that'll give you the places and details. It will also tell you when there will deffo be at least 30 middle aged to elderly people (possibly accompanied by my children) filling the routes with chatter and being led by someone who carries his map in a plastic bag on string around his neck. lol:
