I was trying to think of a "proper" pub that you could retire to Nick, but they are all touristy ones catering to the masses. The closest you'll get to real pubs are ... well there aren't any  cry: Wykeham Arms use to be great, but looking at recent reviews that appears to have gone considerably downhill from its status of one of the UK's best pubs for a few years running  sad32:
