We live in a metric country, all the other pipes (and all the fittings I have) are 20mm...

So why is the one I cut ½"?  cussing:

I just know this is a stupid question but how deep were you digging and with what to manage to cut a water supply pipe?

You'd think it was a stupid question...

In Cyprus the water 'main' is a plastic pipe that snakes around the village....

They take a 20mm ½" feed off it for each property, through a water meter (compulsory) then under the garden to the house....

So the pipe was only a few mm below the surface next to the irrigation pipes...

One of the 'gardeners' we've employed over the years to do various jobs had obviously confused the two pipes and fitted a drip-feeder to our water 'main'...  ::)

When I discovered the mistake yesterday (gawd knows how long it has been dripping), I cut out the offending bit assuming it was 20mm and knowing that I had a mahoosive box full of 20mm joins and stuff...

OK?

Well, obviously not OK for you ~ most annoying in fact.

Clearly I am unaware (until today) of how the "plumbing" is organised in Cyprus and that's why I asked. My water supply pipes are a couple of feet underground (as I discovered when I had a water meter fitted) and I assumed, incorrectly, that such roolz would apply in most places.

The question was not intended as a wind-up. I thought that perhaps you were digging deep to plant something or other.

As it is I guess you ended up with an unwanted water feature.  ;)

Having a house built in 1949 to a pre-war plan ~it was started in 1939 but building was suspended for the duration + a couple of years as building materials were "rationed" I have the weirdest collection of pipe fittings that constantly produce much tooth sucking from plumbers.

I could post you some 1/2" fittings angel1

This all reminds me of a scene from Jacques Tati's Mon Oncle, but I can't find the relevant clip on You Tube.

I am not wound up....  angel1

I managed to find a ½" (High Pressure) connector in the local shop in the end... and I turned the mains off before I cut the pipe... and de pressurised the system so there was no water feature....  cloud9:

Interesting to watch them start a new development here... the records don't show where the water 'main' is with any accuracy so they dig a big hole with a JCB until they find it...  noooo:

Back from the quacks.  Coffee needed just to take my BP up just a tad further.
