Gatwick is heaving today. A plane has just gone screaming over my head as it pulled up from an aborted landing.

Why did it abort or don't we get to hear those bits.

Miss C, planes quite frequently have to abort as the preceding plane hasn't cleared the runway sufficiently - no danger. I probably see one about every fortnight.

Gatwick is heaving today. A plane has just gone screaming over my head as it pulled up from an aborted landing.

Why did it abort or don't we get to hear those bits.

I remember my first solo....  cloud9:

Having flown perfect circuits all morning my instructor jumped out and said "now go and do it on your own".  eeek:

Take-off was okay but it is pretty scary being up there on your own for the very first time.... you know that gravity is generally on your side and you can't get stuck up there but arriving on terra firma somewhat faster than you should (and bending the club's aircraft) is not an encouraging prospect...  noooo:

Anyhooo.... I simply couldn't get the landing right... every time I was on 'finals' I'd be too low/high/fast/slow and had to announce "Golf Whisky Oscar, going round" on the radio....

I went round, and round, and round...  redface:

After a while I could see a little crowd had gathered around the fire truck!  evil: It had an air/ground radio so they could both hear my announcements (and no doubt take bets on the outcome of each circuit) and be where the action was if the fire truck was needed...

Suffice to say (and luckily for you lot  whistle:) I did finally nail it and make a reasonable landing - well, I walked away from it and the aircraft was not u/s....  whistle:

noooo: When you have finished you will have to start all over again.

Our batty neighbour (unlike we sensible folk) have just had a 90k extension put on their house well not put rather built. This includes, because of the valley side that the houses are built on, a set of patio doors half way up the rear wall.  This was left as was for about a month and then three men turned up and with much tutting and measuring, sucking of teeth and jotting it seems that a plan for the stair way to ground level was planned.

What neighbour had not factored in was the tightness of the dog leg that would be needed so as not to come onto our property.  Much stomping around followed but the thing was built. It is quite intrusive to us but we said nothing. It is constructed out of tanalised wood and looked smart and would have looked better as it aged.  Sooo much was our surprise when we were woken at 8am on Sunday by the sound of an electric sander.  He has started sanding it down for some reason known only to himself, it looks awful.

Later the same day his wife asked us if we would like to put some trellis or fencing up (this is their border) by the houses so that we all had some privicy. Angry9:

I have been trying to get some sense out of the DWP.  Having failed at this and wasted my morning I am going to bake some courgette cakes. angel1
