I appreciate that it is in who makes the approach and not the method. What did surprise me was that he asked no questions, didn't even comment on my arguments just said ~ Drop me an email with your NI details and permission for them to talk to me about your case and I'll do it.
My email to him contained no details of what I was asking, all I said was
" Dear Chris, further to our telephone conversation of this morning I am having problems getting a response from the DWP. My NI is XX XX XX XX X and I confirm I fully consent to your discussing this matter with the DWP.
Regards
Snoopy"

His office emailed back to say
"Dear Snoopy, Thanks for the email. Chris has sent it to the Chief Executive of the DWP. If you don't hear from them in the next two weeks please let me know
Regards XXXXXX on behalf of etc"

I got a reply, in the post, from DWP in their usual jargon
"We have looked into etc etc blah blah blah. and find that our officers have acted correctly etc etc.

Then a phone call from the MP's office saying have you heard from DWP and would you like me to email a copy of the reply we got?

The letter I got from DWP ran to about 3/4 of a page. The reply to the MP was two pages long!!!
I used to have a handle on life but it broke.

Were they expecting the MP to forward on that information to you ? That is often the expectation.

As a rule we will respond to the original MP enquiry and also provide a copy of this reply to the individual concerned.

I assume they would expect him to make me aware of their letter to him .... after all they know he has to be seen to do something when asked by a constituent.
Their letter to me was full of "We are right"

Their letter to him was full of "We are sorry that our usual standards seem to have failed on this occasion. Please be assured we will be looking to ensure there is no repeat etc etc" followed by "Should your constituent have further questions or would like a fuller explanation they may call Ms XXX XXXXXX on 012345678 who will be happy to help him in any way she can" Then a lot more blah about how hard they worked to ensure standards etc.

What pleased me was to have a name and number to make contact with.
I have spoken to the laydee ~ she couldn't have been more helpful and has ordered a review of my case ... which is what I asked for in the first place. She has also admitted that they"MAY" have made an error in their calculations in that they had taken Woodstock's earnings, as shown on a payslip sent to them as proof of income, and seem to have used it as a weekly amount when it was in fact a monthly payment. They have maintained this miscalculation to be correct throughout the debate. She agreed that cannot be deemed to be my fault .... and that was really what I was after.
I used to have a handle on life but it broke.

I've been to the Dentist.
It's better than I ever even knew.  They say that the world was built for two.  Only worth living if somebody is loving you.  Baby now you do.
