Now that you say it, there was an awful lot of smoke over Nottingham as we passed...

The Nissan 350Z was impeccable - we've averaged 72mph and 31.7mpg since joining the M1. So a few pints for me, then the missus is driving us to Stratford-upon-Avon to the hotel. Where we'll have a few more beers and PGs.

By the time we get to S-O-A, I predict an average speed of about 110mph and mpg of about 12.3. She drives like a nutter and the PG will be calling her...

A notice outside the pub says states that "due to the conditions of our licence, you may only drink whilst seated". I asked the barman what that was all about - he said "ignore it, we do". I then asked where the smoking area was and he replied by giving me an ashtray and saying "wherever you want, just bring back the ashtray when you've finished".

I'm starting to like these Northern Monkeys!

The pub menu is quite varied. But all that has come out of the kitchen so far is fish, chips and mushy peas. The "deep fried Brie" and "warm focaccia bread" would appear to be classed as "foreign muck" ooop here.

Part II of the journey - Leeds to Stratford, missus driving. We are currently low flying down the M1 - I daren't look at the speedo, but it's certainly north of 3 figures. And we need petrol. Her logic is that the faster we go, the faster we get to a petrol station. This logic was imparted whilst she was rolling a fag and steering with her knees..

I'm gonna die in a fireball. Oooop North. In a Datsun. Oh, the shame...
