Fecking fancy uplighter      ... just died.
Ok, check the socket on the wall... yes that works 
Ok, check the fuse in the plug and change... nada 
Ok, check the "reading" lamp with new bulb ... nada 
Ok, check the uplighter bulb ... nada 

   Flex?  Too dark to check it    What else?   

Power cut...?

A very local one, on the flex perhaps...
Tomorrow I shall mostly be taking an uplighter to bits ... or binning it

Was it one with a dimmer?  When the bulbs blow they often fry the thyristor in the dimmer too

I took our to bits, wired it all to two plugs into those remote controlled sockets.  Works a treat.
