No....  noooo:

I have a long running Joomla site that I needed to upgrade.

I've been  running it since J 1.5 and it was on 2.5.28 - the latest 2.x version.

So, to get to 3.x is quite a big upgrade but not impossible - in fact theoretically very easy.

So, I followed all the instructions, took backups, etc.

Did all the 'prep' and was ready - clicked 'upgrade' and it buggerated - white screen.

Never mind, restore the backup. White screen.

Database must be gubbed - restore the backup. White screen.

Drop all tables from database and restore backup. White screen.

So I was at that stage where you know you can spend the next days of your life buggerating around trying to fix it OR just accept that it hates you and re-build it from scratch.

So, I've re-built the whole thing and the end result is much better than the upgraded version of the old site would have been...

Been playing with Wordpress (our new website uses it although I have no involvement with it whatsoever).
Not impressed with it at all, no wonder there are so many security holes.

Hopefully I can dodge all the trouble that is going to happen this week, spotted loadsa problems/mistakes with new site and it only went live last Thursday!
