Blimey ...that's a harsh reaction to you moving away 
I don't think that was exactly the final straw
We all went separate ways (I moved just as others of our little group found jobs, Uni etc) and he was left with no mates and no prospects. I could have done so much more but I was 17 and very naive. We have to learn from events, not pretend that in the same circumstances we'd have done different.
Sorry to make this confession time. I did a Streetview to see if those much Jaguar banged walls had been replaced (they have, better) and it brought it all back
