How on earth did you manage to fit it upside down BM?  eeek:

You'd think it bastard impossible wouldn't you...?   eeek:

But some of the new M.2 SSDs have two key slots and can be fitted both ways...

Surely the standard components on top, pins and solder on the bottom technique would have given you a clue...  noooo:

Double-sided... ::)
Have to agree that does look like a design by Mr Makes Loadsa Money Out of Wrong Installs

How much damage did it do?  Just the SSD?
Well, whatever, nevermind

They do make them with just a single key... ::)

It buggered the SSD and burnt-out some link on the motherboard...  noooo:

Fortunately, there is a second 2.5" SATA slot on the M/B so we fitted a 'normal' SSD knto that and Bob's yer Uncle like...  :thumbsup:

A €180 cock up....  cry:

Oh woes

Don't laptops normally come with the SSD already fitted?
Well, whatever, nevermind

It is one of those long stories that you look back on and wonder why you ended up with a busted laptop but each step was actually logical at the time...

The end game of the story is that I had an new Asus laptop with an i5 processor configured to replace my PC (because of move to apartment)...

...then I found an (outrageously cheap) identical laptop to replace LL's PC but it had an i7 processor....  rubschin:

...so I thought, "if I just swap the SSDs I'll get a new i7 laptop and LL will get a new i5 laptop that I can configure to replace her desktop PC..." facepalm:

Not sure that would have worked anyway, the Windows 10 licensing system is geared against putting it in a new machine.

Well, it did werk... ::)

So the i5 SSD werked perfectly in the i7 system and I'm sure the i7 SSD would have werked in the i5 had it put it in the right way up... ;)
