This may be of interest or not

About those fires

I was maybe a bit too dismissive about the newspaper reports.  This was one of my pics from last Friday looking at Port Macquarie (just to the right of the winglet)

When we got here Sunday it was pretty clear mainly just a light smokey smell.  However talking to locals it really was bad that day "less than 150 yards visibility"  (funnilly for a metric country yes they said 'yards')

The Fire Service have a brilliant web site where you can see what the current situation really is https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/fire-information/fires-near-me

You could get spooked looking at it without thinking.  Here's the current view for about 200 miles around here

A lot of fires around Port Macquarie.  But look at the bottom left and it says "There are 0 Emergency Warnings"

We saw a fire about 3 miles from here just past the airport and it's still active and it's definitely smokier here right now (6.55 am)

but you can click on the symbols and get the full story

910 hectares isn't small but there's been a lot bigger and apparently the Alert level is only 'Advice' and status is 'Under Control'

Today is supposed to be a riskier hotter day, we'll keep looking at the horizon and web site

Well, whatever, nevermind

Well today we were to be found atop a camel

And before someone makes camel toe jokes the guy taking the pics was way ahead of you

Last day in Port Macquarie.  Very decent town especially now the smoke has cleared again.  And it has a gorgeous young lady that serves huge ice creams at the Baskin Robbins emporium
Well, whatever, nevermind

Today we are driving to Newcastle* to pick up a spare part for our mahoosive washing line (yes really, can't get it in the UK) and then on to Toronto* as can't stay in Newcastle where they want $700 a night for hotel rooms there as it's the finals of their Supercar series racing round the town like Monaco

Was going to go inland to some place in the Hunter valley but fires changed our minds.

*  NSW versions of course
Well, whatever, nevermind
