Boat enters lock. I am aware that it is this guy's first time out in his new boat (warning from adjacent lock keeper).
I intend to keep a close eye on him when a portly gentleman appears climbing up a ladder from the lock.

Me: What are you doing?
Him: looking for a place to tie up to!
Me. You can do that in the lock from your boat. There are those things called risers.
Him: Really? Oh, thanks, I am very new to this
Me: I suggest you get back on your boat
Him: It's gone!!
Me: EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK

It has indeed headed off by itself and crashed into the gates at the other end of the lock. (Top Tip: put engine in neutral before leaving boat)

That took some sorting out! Every tried pulling a boat backwards with a hook while the engine is pushing it forward and the owner is clinging to a ladder and whimpering? Oddly, his wife was on board and was relaxing with her headphones on. facepalm:

lol:  she'd been to LL's school of gate crashing?

Why didn't you just open the gates and pass the problem on to the next lock?
Well, whatever, nevermind

Could this mook be somehow related to you by any chance? From the way you described his wife I'm guessing she is used to this kind of thing happening...  rubschin:
