Boat enters lock. I am aware that it is this guy's first time out in his new boat (warning from adjacent lock keeper).
I intend to keep a close eye on him when a portly gentleman appears climbing up a ladder from the lock.
Me: What are you doing?
Him: looking for a place to tie up to!
Me. You can do that in the lock from your boat. There are those things called risers.
Him: Really? Oh, thanks, I am very new to this
Me: I suggest you get back on your boat
Him: It's gone!!
Me: EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK
It has indeed headed off by itself and crashed into the gates at the other end of the lock. (Top Tip: put engine in neutral before leaving boat)
That took some sorting out! Every tried pulling a boat backwards with a hook while the engine is pushing it forward and the owner is clinging to a ladder and whimpering? Oddly, his wife was on board and was relaxing with her headphones on.
