You remember I fitted the LED backlights to the tellybox...? They increase contrast - very impressive! 

Anyhoo... I decided to fit them to the second telly...

They arrived yesterday from Amazon and I spent the morning removing the wires and taking it off the wall... Then cleaned the back, fitted the LED strip and re-mounting it and connecting it all up again... 

But the USB ports on the LG don't produce enough power - only 2½ Watts... 

The ones on the Samsung in the lounge are much more sensibly rated at 25W...

It is daft because the manual tells you that you can plug-in a hard drive and use it to record... But all the discs I have are rated at 5W... An SSD would be the only option and the manual doesn't say that...

The manual doesn't give the spec of the USB either, I had to search the Interwebz for it...

Well actually, I disconnected everything, took it off the wall and put it on the sofa and it was then I thought, "you should have plugged it in and tested it before you did all that"...

That's completely daft, sound like they have a marginal power supply design so are trying to save a milliamp here and a milliamp there
 
Some electronics manufacturers are doing daft things on power supplies etc trying to get the power consumption down to meet stupid false green targets.  It of course means the PSU has a shorter life which means all that energy etc required to replace the TV when it fails.
