Some good news: The DVLA have said I'm allowed to drive again

Disgraceful though to see today's revelations that so many DVLA staff were paid to sit at home watching TV while your and many other essential applications sat in unopened post bags

Sent off a new photo as soon as I received the notice. Today I managed to get through on the phone. They confirmed they had received said photo and were processing my application. I was hoping to get a written confirmation so I could drive immediately under Section 88. Turns out it doesn't apply to a medical application so I've got to wait for the actual licence to pop through the letterbox.    Banghead

Sounds like same hole my brother is in.  Quickly told not to drive after Covid gave him blackouts and yet it'll be half past next century before the DVLA will process the doctor's confirmation he is safe to drive.  And this means he's out of work.

Well, whatever, nevermind
