So, I had a really terrible day...
The German wedding party all kicked off after a big argument between the mother of the groom and the mother of the bride... Long story short I ended up driving all over the village between the warring groups and eventually had the bride turn up at my house in floods of tears...
At the end of all this I had to make accommodation arrangements for people that won't get on the same plane from Pafos to Berlin today...
After that lot, I really, really needed a drink but half way to the supermarket (my cupboard was bare!
) the phone goes and a voice informs me that it is at my house to serve me court papers!
So turn the car round (still no booze) back to the house and there is an official there with all the papers... Confirms my ID, gets me to sign and hands me the court summons... I asked what the hell it was about and he just shrugs and drives off...
All I can read on the thing is my name, my Cypriot ID number, my passport number and my phone number, oh and the date I have to be in court - 20th October...
So, set my priorities right, off to the supermarket to buy booze - obviously extremely worried about what was happing... buy LOTS of booze...
Get home and call my lawyer, scan the thing and send it off for an anxious wait while he looks up the case number...
So the lawyer calls back and it appears that I'm being called as a witness to a burglary that I reported two years ago!
I mean, I didn't actually
witness a burglary, I noticed that a neighbour's car was missing, walked around the property and discovered that the rear patio doors had been forced open... Then called the police who turned up and entered the property, did their stuff and secured it. I had to go to the police station to make a statement but it was pretty much the first sentence of this paragraph...
But because court proceedings are (obvs.) in Greek I'll need a lawyer and translator to be in court with me on the 20th...
