Gordon gets Krafty with Cadbury's
« on: January 19, 2010, 10:34:54 AM »

Gordon Brown today fired a warning shot at Kraft, outlining his determination to secure jobs at Cadbury, the 186-year old maker of Dairy Milk chocolate, which has agreed to be taken over by the American company for ?11.9 billion.

The Prime Minster was speaking after the board of Cadbury, which employs 45,000 staff including 9,000 in the UK, announced that it would recommend an 850p a share offer from Kraft, ending one of the City's most fiercely contested bid battles.

The trade union Unite has warned that Kraft plans at least 10,000 job cuts worldwide to slash costs and repay the cash it will need to borrow for the deal.

Mr Brown said this morning: ?The one thing I want to say is this: we are determined that the levels of investment that take place in Cadburys in the United Kingdom are maintained.   ?And we are determined of course, that at a time when people are worried about their jobs, that jobs in Cadbury can be secure,? he added.

Excuse my ignorance but what the feck can he do about it  Shrugs: - Is this the same threat that has worked with manufacturing industries, the motor industry etc.  Kraft must be shaking in their boots  noooo:

A bigger threat will be if they change the recipe in any way and make it taste like American chocolate - then Miss D will take up arms  evil:

The only way Brown can keep the UK jobs is to 'bribe' Kraft. Probably something that Kraft are banking on.

The only thing Gorgon can do about it is to doom them into failure by promising to support them. Oh...  noooo:

Anyhoo... on the news this morning they had 60,000 employees and only 6,000 in the UK?

Not that it matters any more...

But CadburyWorld is the 8th Wonder of the World   whistle:

As for the number of staff - would already appear to have gone down 3000 in the space of 5 minutes or so  lol:

I understand that RBS are involved in the financial side of this deed. Be very afraid.

They will be investing heavily in chocolate teapots then.

You can expect to see a load more stories like this over the next few months, the last desperate attempts of a man who knows he is going to get his arse well and truely kicked in the election frantically jumping on any bandwagon that may get him another few votes.

But alienating the Cadbury  munching population means that hardly anyone is going to turn out to vote and it was going to be slim pickings as it was  noooo:

Since when have you expected Gordon to be good at arithmetic Miss D?

I don't see a problem, Kraft are hardly likely to default on the loan so the interest earned is money in that, so to speak.
