Annoying Adverts
« on: January 21, 2010, 06:14:52 PM »
A Marketing magazine has recently completed a poll of THE most annoying adverts on TV

- any glaring omissions as far as you're concerned ?

1 Go Compare's opera singer
2 Cash 4Gold
3 Glade air freshener, featuring a little boy telling his Mum he wants: "to do a poo at Paul's".
4 Swiftcover featuring Iggy Pop
5 Confused.com
6 118 247 'heaven'
7 Churchill's the talking dog
8 Webuyanycar.com - repetitive jingle
9 Nintendo - Ant & Dec playing games
10 Country Life butter with Johnny Rotten
11 McDonald's poem about junk food
12 Kingsmill
13 BT
14 Gillette starring (no longer) Thierry Henry, Tiger Woods and Roger Federer
15 T-Mobile mass singalongs.
16 Peugeot's "drivesexy"
17 Dolmio's Italian puppets
18 Orange and the girl taking her witch friend to the cinema.
19 Greggs big push on pies
20 Tesco starring Faye Ripley and Mark Addy

P.S Financial advertising is often bizarre. I would love to have been a fly on the wall at the offices of 'Compare the Market' when the ad execs pitched their idea... "Well we've got this plan to use a meerkat...." Who knew that would be so amazingly successful? The last laugh is on us though - furry ?20 replicas of Aleksandr the meerkat were the 'must-have' Christmas gift last month and ended up changing hands for nearly ?1,000 each on eBay. I guess hooking the children of your customers is a clever move.

Of those listed the Iggy Pop one would be top of my list, but I liked the T-Mobile one in the railway station

to be added to the list:
Paul Whitehouse in Aviva ads (I think) "Green army"
Anything with Davina McCall in it
Michael Winner (I think it was/is e-sure)

Sheila's wheels has gotta go  Banghead

....and if I see that woman slip on the newly washed floor one more time and then claim her compensation I WILL GO SPARE - that has been on telly for about three trillion years  evil:

What is the longest running TV ad still going at the moment ????

They've recently started repeating the John Cleese Sekoda ones from the 70's IIRC

All of those especially the 'go compare' my blood pressure rises to boiling point but there is an ad for a car, I know not which car, so it really does not work, that  makes me smile, it's about if birds didn't use their wings, well no it's not it's about a car but for me it's about a bird not using it's wings looking at a car and dopping off it's  perch.
I have always thought that the worst thing about drowning was having to call 'help!' You must look such a fool. It's put me against drowning.
