Winter Olympics
« on: February 12, 2010, 09:31:56 AM »
An event which effectively excludes half the world ? the warm half

More than 2,500 athletes from 82 countries, watched by 10,000 media, 250,000 spectators and three billion television viewers?

How could you not love a festival which can give you both the impression of a man flying (Franz Klammer?s blind madness in 1976) and a man falling off the edge of the world (Eddie the Eagle?s myopic fortitude in 1988)? Now that?s entertainment.

Maybe the equivalent this time will be America?s injured millionaire, Lindsey Vonn, battling through the physical pain barrier in her attempt at five golds while Kwame Nkrumah-Acheampong, the impoverished one-man Ghana ski team from Milton Keynes and soon to be our favourite Olympian, battles through the financial pain barrier as he attempts to not finish last.

So will we be watching much of this then  rubschin:

Wimmin Ski Jumpers have had their application for Olympic status and competition rejected again.

Thought you'd like to know that.  rubschin:

Well I can't sit here bandying words with you ~ a man has delivered a lot of logs and there is a distinct shortage of volunteer labour to put them away so it looks like I shall have to do it. This will take some time and will cause me to hurt a lot. I may even have a heart attack.
