I have been surprised on my last two admissions to discover that they now allow mobiles on the wards ~ as long as you have it on "silent" so as not to annoy everyone else with a loud ringing or bleeps as you text ~ it seems that they have at last realised that it doesn't interfere with their equipment. All the nurses now carry their "mobies" as they like to call them
The "authorities" don't even seem to mind/notice when you put the mobile on charge in their sockets!
Guy in the bed next to mine last time I was in was using 3 sockets ... His mobile charger, a portable DVD player, and one for his rechargeable electric razor. When the girl wanted to do an ECG she asked him, very pointedly, if he minded unplugging one of his many appliances so she could plug in the ECG machine. He agreed to pull his razor off charge very reluctantly.
