Blocking 'guests'
« on: March 15, 2010, 12:25:58 PM »
I do it on my little forum, to keep 'undesirables' from other forums that I've had squabbles with in the past.
Can this be done in here, as i seriously suspect the Growlers jnr. have laid there paws on the VP addy, and may be coming in here to read 'stuff'. scared2:

I'm led to believe someone else may be having similar problems too. scared2:

We're fortunate to not have issues with other forums any more.

And I'm not aware of anybody on the pub that has been harassed by another person externally...

The only way to block Growler Junior from browsing this board would be to block your IP address but that would block you too...

Also note that blocking IP addresses does not completely block access - it is possible to browse anonymously or use a 'proxy server' to gain access.

We can and will remove any member of the board who we consider to be undesirable but this has not happened since 'Galoot' visited.

Firstly they have to have some sort of idea what the place is called to 'google' it. Then they request membership in my place. I get sent an email if someone wants to join, and they cannot read ANYTHING until such time. noooo:

The Growler jnr's keep 'harrasing'....for want of a better werd....quoting  me with stuff that I may have said in here.
Not direct quotes as such, but suspiciously similar. It all gets back to Mrs G then too. ::)

I either spend the next 6 months deleting everything dirogatory that i MAY have said over the past 3 years, or impose some sort of gagging order on meself.

For those who share a computer with others simply install "Net Nanny" or similar, place this site beyond reach by allowing access to it only via a password and keep the password to yourself. Simples!
I used to have a handle on life but it broke.

Indeed. If you take away the 99% that have been scared off by reading about Nick, there would be no new blood at all.

We should all remember that this is a public forum.

There is nothing to stop anybody reading what we post here...

Even if we did block specific IP addresses, there is nothing to stop somebody using a proxy server, an anonymous browsing facility, a mate's computer, an Internet Caf? or the public library to access the site using an address that we are not blocking.

The only recourse the Admin have is to ban registered users of the board that abuse it or other members in some way.

OK?
