Another techie problem

I have moved rooms and in the process decided to run the PC (Vista Home) through the multi media TV set in the new room. This avoids having two screens in close proximity.
However I find that having got it all working the TV screen is showing everything in hoooooge type. Icons are massive and not everything fits on the screen.
I have "personalized" the settings as far as I am able but even the smallest I can achieve is too big.
Any ideas (apart from sitting further back)?

Does the TV support SVGA or above?

Some still only have VGA resolution.

It is new but seems (according to the instruction manual) to be VGA

It was not purchased for the purpose of multi media use but to replace a TV that was knackered. The decision to use it for PC as well came later.

Mrs Tel one another (Samsung) in the company Xmas raffle and it is SVGA (lovely), use it all the time.
