Free website?
« on: April 05, 2010, 08:47:25 PM »
Anyone had anu experience or useage of one of these, like this one?
http://www.gbbo.co.uk/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=non-brand-cpc&utm_campaign=control-region&utm_term=free%20web%20site

I let my 'other business' website time itself out as I didn't have much control over it tbh., and cussies were really really slow and far between too.
Emailing the geezer that designed and hosted (is it?) for me was a pain, and costing me for every ammendment.

Now though, as a final push to try and generate some interest before deciding wheather to just give it all up, I thought if I could do some advertising for virtually nothing, then in essence I'd have virtually nothing to lose.

www.***************. net is written on the vehicle already, and is available from the site as above, but being a slight I.T numpty, I don't want to go about this the wrong way and stich meself up like. noooo:
If I go ahead, I'll probably park the car in some prominent places before the road tax runs out at the end of this month.
No point in doing that presently, as if you type in the web addy shown it'll come up 'unavailable', as one or two have told me already.

Thoughts? rubschin:

If it is 'Free' your site will be smothered in adverts to pay for it....

No, no ads apparently. Some sort of sponsorship funding it for 2 years between Google and BT I think it said.

I don't think I would really trust something that's "free", always some strings attached.

I bought a domain name and web-site space etc for about ?20. That includes email etc.
Not free but bloody cheap compared to the last time I did it.

I'm quite happy doing my own web design, bit rusty that's all.

I looked at that. Seemed ok, but could be short term cos of the funding.
Had no email options so did not suit me.

2 years apparently, then a small annual charge thereafter.

I don't really need a seperate email addy, but I could set another one up specifically through google or someone couldn't I?

Yes, 2 years,(not sure which 2 years though)  but its' a voluntary so I did not feel I could rely on it.

I wanted email address(es) thet reflected the name and felt thet people prefer a "proper" address rather than the micky-mouse hotmail, gmail addresses etc.
Personal feeling, that's all.

It's free, and it is a last ditch attempt to drum up some business before deciding if I should simply sell the car and all the associated gubbins that goes with it. I REALLY don't want to as everyone keeps telling me it's a great venture. ::)
Yea, great if sheeples actually book and pay. Werds and compliments/plaudits are cheap.

IF it works, even just a couple of cussies, then it'll have been worth it I think, and now with a Pirate Top Tip regarding Yell, it might just produce something.
Never used Yell before.

Gubbed it already. crash:

Registered, entered all the codes they sent me via text, template page came up for creation and editing, clicked on everything on the page, but nowt happened.
Clicked off the page to go back to see if I'd done summat wrong...like I normally have...and now can't get back to the editing page template for me new website.
No email address or help desk, just an 0800 number for non technical queries.

My only saving grace is that it says it can take up to 2 days for the website to become registered, so I suppose I'll just have to sit back and wait for an email off them.
Other than that it seems I've now got a website that no one can get into...including me. Bloody typical.
I blame the cats ghost. evil:
